For those who enjoy astronomy, and those who enjoy just looking up at a clear sky on a summer's night, Lakesun's location away from the city lights provides a good dark-sky view of the constellations. This long exposure of the night sky in September, 2010, at left, shows the view of the Milky Way.
Below: A view of moon and clouds reflected in calm evening waters.
Birdwatchers love the variety of nesting and migratory birds found at Lakesun. Whipporwills and loons serenade the night, a wide variety of warblers and songbirds fill the air with sweet song throughout the spring and summer. Hummingbirds dance around feeders maintained by members and entertain us with their antics.
Here, a couple of loons chase each other around the lake, one of the unusual behaviours that we have an opportunity to observe.

Mammals, like the chipmunk on the left looking for handouts, and whitetail deer shown on the right, share our woodlands with us. Beaver, muskrat, squirrels, fox, raccoon, mink, snowshoe hare and other mammals can occasionally be observed at Lakesun.
Colourful butterflies alight on our abundant wildflowers. At left an eastern tiger swallowtail rests on a lilac, at right a painted lady feeds on nectar from a buttonbush.
